Year 2 – Koalas

During Year 2 children follow all the subjects studied in the earlier years with the same guiding Montessori methods and materials.

The children continue to work independently using the wide variety of resources available to them.

When the children move into Koalas we also introduce ICT into the timetable, which is taught within the dedicated ICT building by a specialist teacher.

We also begin to study cross curricular projects throughout the year, which helps the parents to involve themselves with their child’s education.

There are numerous trips to fish and other farms and visits to local Suffolk coastlines and areas of geographical interest, which as in previous years, are designed to underpin the topics covered across the year.

During year 2 our children are encouraged to participate, alongside our older year groups, in the residential Hilltop Outdoor Centre. Throughout the trip our children face numerous new and sometimes daunting challenges, both at team and individual levels, which really push them to discover their true potential. Returning exhilarated and bursting with new-found confidence and strength of character truly is a wonderful thing to see!

Koala children are also encouraged to participate in the annual French visit. These trips allow the children to immerse themselves in a different culture, practice and enhance their language skills through practical experience and continue to grow and develop in confidence and independence.

Year 2 is where, in front of our eyes, we see young children develop into independent and confident young characters.
