Music
Music plays an important part in school life here at Arbor.
All pupils sing in their ‘class choirs’ and are invited to join the Boys/Girls and /or Chamber Choir.
At Lower Prep level music teaching is focussed on establishing a reliable ear and a secure singing voice. This is complimented by theory teaching across the school and by further vocal technique within the Upper Prep.
From year 3 pupils learn the ukulele and drumming, and are encouraged to take individual singing and piano lessons. Extensive lists of private teachers are available for pupils who wish to pursue other instruments in addition to this music foundation.
Pupils are entered for Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall examinations when appropriate.
With a wide range of public performances and concerts throughout the year, pupils are regularly able to participate either as individuals or as part of one of the school choirs or the ukulele band. Other ensembles are formed for special occasions and events.
We have a strong tradition of singing within the school with several children passing auditions to the St Edmundsbury Cathedral Choir, the National Youth Choir, Voice Squad and Cantata Youth Choir.
Many past pupils have progressed to music and vocal scholarships at various senior independent schools across East Anglia.
