Cultural subjects

History
We believe that to help children understand the world today they first need to understand the past. Our children are taught about important events in Britain’s past, ancient civilisations and history of other parts of the world.

A rich programme of excursions is planned for each year group to bring the topics covered to life. Trips include a visit to the Jorvik Viking Centre to learn about the Vikings, through to visits to The Imperial War Museum to learn about more recent historical events.

Geography
We explore the rich and diverse subject of Geography through a range of stimulating, practical, hands-on experiences and focussed research based learning. Each class will focus on a particular continent, exploring all the areas of geographical interest providing a sound understanding of the richness of the subject and continent covered.

Local geography includes many areas such as the study of coastal erosion with trips to local coastlines, as well as weather studies where the children monitor and record weather effects using a variety of scientific instruments.

Religious Education
Our approach to this area of the curriculum sets out to help develop an understanding of why and how people worship, what creates feelings, and how religious faith affects people's everyday lives.

Our programme of study aims to provide an understanding of the key concepts and beliefs of the six major world religions. Religious festivals are brought to life within the classrooms from reception class through to year 6.

Art
Within the school we aim to create an environment where pupils feel inspired and eager to explore different techniques.

The children are encouraged to explore a wide range of different materials and work within both 2D and 3D projects.

The work produced is displayed around the school for all to enjoy, with many of our pupils seeing their work exhibited in various galleries throughout East Anglia.

Food Technology
Food Technology forms part of the curriculum where children learn practical life skills as well as the importance of food and its origins.

Dance
We also provide National Dance lessons to those children who would are interested. If you would like more information on these then please email:
